Minutes of the Annual Parochial Church Meeting
Present: In the Chair, the Vicar, Fr David Clues, and 16 lay members.
1. Apologies: Hilda Goldbourne, Roger Macklen, David Rixon, . Diane Shrouder , Ethel Smith
2. Minutes of the APCM for 2005 were read, passed, and signed as correct.
3. Electoral Roll
The revised Electoral Roll was presented containing 132 names. There had been 115 in 2005, and 17 new members had registered, 2 of them 16 year olds. The numbers were encouraging, particularly as some regular members of the congregation were still not on the roll.
4. Secretary’s Report
Rosalind Glaser presented a written Secretary’s Report, and thanked Catherine McArdle and Elsie Points for writing notes at PCC meetings. She was thanked for her work as Secretary to the PCC, which was not just about writing and circulating minutes, but included other tasks.
5. PCC Accounts
The Treasurer, Catherine McArdle presented income and expenditure accounts for 2005 which had been Independently Examined by Daniel K Ennuson ACCA. She was thanked for her hard work as Treasurer.
The new way of presenting accounts had been a steep learning curve.
Planned Giving had increased by 11%, an amazing achievement and an excellent sign of health and viability. Hand to mouth living was dependent on regular giving. Giving represented 31% of income and Common Fund represented 26% of expenditure.
6. Report on Fabric, Goods and Ornaments
The Churchwardens presented a written report.
There was a question as to when the sound system would be put back. This could not be done until discussions between the electrical contractors and Stonewest had been resolved.
The Churchwardens were thanked for the legal responsibility of looking after the fixtures and fittings. Ray Lane was thanked for being around to let in the contractors and lock the church afterwards.
7. Report on Proceedings of the Deanery Synod
A written report was presented by the representatives.
Brent Deanery Synod was beginning to work, and the Deanery clergy worked together well. The youth meeting had been excellent, largely due to the efforts of Lucky Enekeme.
8. Election of 6 members of the PCC
New rules meant that we could now have 12 elected members, as well as the 2 Deanery Synod Representatives (Rosalind Glaser and Catherine McArdle) and 2 Churchwardens (Stephen Halliwell and Elsie Points).
Continuing members of the PCC were Lucky Enekeme, Alison Harvey, Pauline Heward-Mills, Ray Lane, Esther Ugwunkwo, and Kathy Watters.
Holding office on the PCC was a responsible task as the members were leaders of the parish community.
6 new members were to be elected and 7 nominations had been received:
There was a question as to whether those nominated had to be present at this meeting. They did not.
It was commented that vacancies on the PCC should be highlighted more in church to encourage participation. This was noted for next year.
An election was duly held, with one spoilt ballot paper. The following were elected to serve on the PCC: Andrina Barnden, Erline Johnson, Susanne Knight, Roger Macklen, Ramone Russell-Rhoden, Diane Shrouder.
Ramone Russell-Rhoden would join the PCC once his GCSEs were finished. His presence would encourage younger people to participate in the PCC.
9. Election of Sidesmen
It was proposed from the chair that the existing sidesmen (Hilda Goldbourne, Pauline Heward-Mills, Susanne Knight, Evelyn Lane, Ray Lane, Molly Nanka-Bruce, Linette Shrouder, Alma Taylor and Esther Ugwunkwo, and the Churchwardens) should be reappointed. They were elected unanimously for 2006-7:
10. Parish Reports
Written reports were presented for St Anne’s Guild, Bells, Nursery, St Mary’s School, Social Committee and Youth Work. There was no Music Group report – we did not have a Director of Music at the moment, and it was difficult to find one.
St Mary’s Nursery had had a good year financially, donating £28 000 to the parish in 2005 and recently paying £18 000 for the new universal access lavatory. The staff were well paid. Fees were currently £120 for full time children, and proportionately higher for part time.
11. Report from Fr. David
Stephen Halliwell thanked Fr David for the past year on behalf of the congregation and those visited at home.
The meeting closed with prayers at 9.50 pm.
